Introduction

Bistriţa-Năsăud County is located in the northwestern part of Romania, on the upper course of Someşul Mare, being framed by the counties Maramureş to the north, Suceava to the east, Mureş to the south and Cluj to the west.


It is located in the west of Bistrita-Năsăud County, in a lowland-hill area, on the valley of Someş and Ilişua valley. The commune is crossed by Ilişua River with its tributaries. It is surrounded by hills in the northern part, and in the south by Someşul-Mare River.

 

The localities bordering Uriu commune are:
- to the north Ciceu-Giurgeşti commune;
- to the east Coldău village, component of Beclean town;
- to the west Petru-Rareş commune ;
- to the south Braniştea commune.

 

The economic base is made up of the individual households of the peasants, profiled on agricultural activities and livestock farming. The industrial sector is poorly represented, as well the associative structures in the agricultural domain.

 

Uriu commune is an integral part of Bistriţa-Năsăud county, consisting of the following four localities: Uriu, Cristeştii Ciceului,Ilişua and Hăşmaşu Ciceului.

 

Uriu village is the locality of residence, which stretches from the entrance in the commune from Petru-Rareş commune on DN 17 (Cluj-Bistriţa) and DJ 171 (Uriu-Târlişua). It is the type of village of lowland-hill with a hearth developed in a branched way.


Cristeştii Ciceului village stretches along DN 17 (Cluj-Bistriţa), is located in the east part of the commune. It is the type of village of lowland with hearth branched along Ilişua river.


Ilişua village stretches along DJ 171 (Uriu - Târlişua). It is the type of village of lowland-hill with branched hearth.
Hăşmaşu Ciceului village is located in the north of the commune, bordering Ciceu-Giurgeşti commune. It is the type of village of hill with branched hearth.
